1. Hydrogen reading higher / lower than expected
Solution:

 
Ensure alloy calibration constants are set correctly
Ensure analyser is programmed with the correct sensor calibration values

2. Unusually slow sensor response
Solution:

 
Clean end of sensor (see manual)
Ensure sensor is stored correctly when not in use. Sensor should not be exposed to ambient humidity for longer than 12h. If sensor will not be used for a long period of time then it should be removed from the probe and stored in a sealed plastic bag containing desiccant.

3. Erratic / noisy readings
Solution:

 

Check probe connections.
Check degasser rotor position. When using the probe with a degassing unit, position the probe as far away as possible from the rotor (ideally 75 cm - 1 m). Mounting too close to the rotor may result in erratic readings caused by bubbles of purging gas passing beneath the sensor, and damage to the probe due to collision with the rotor
.
Check melt voltage.

4. Unable to enter sensor calibration values
Solution:

 

Log in as “Engineering”

5. Unable to change custom alloy calibration
Solution:

 

Log in as “Engineering”

6. Analyser message: “Temperature too low”
Solution:

 

The is message is displayed if the probe temperature is < 650 °C
Ensure melt temperature is >650 °C

7. Analyser message “Temperature too high”
Solution:

 

This message is displayed if the probe temperature is >820 °C
Remove probe from melt
Ensure melt temperature is <800 °C
Re-immerse probe

8. Analyser message “Replace Sensor-Failing”
Solution:

 

Sensor needs replacing
If problem persists then check the probe’s electrical connections (see manual)

9. Analyser message “Replace Sensor-Short”
Solution:

 

Replace sensor (possible aluminium ingress)
If problem persists then check the probe’s electrical connections (see manual)

10. Analyser message “Thermocouple failure”
Solution:

 

Replace thermocouple

11. Analyser message “Probe not connected”
Solution:

 

Connect probe cable

12. Unable to activate alarms
Solution:

 

Alarms are designed for use with a Foundry Degassing Unit and are disabled by default. Contact your Foseco representative for assistance.

13. Unable to connect to analyser via PC Bridge program
Solution:

 

Ensure PC’s IP address is 192.168.3.xx where xx is in the range 1 - 99
Ensure a crossover Ethernet cable is used to connect the ALSPEK analyser with the PC
Ensure that the analyser's IP address 192.168.3.100 is entered into the “host name” window of the Bridge program

14. Low battery message appears
Solution:

 

Please contact your Foseco representative to arrange for a new battery to be fitted
