One of the most successful applications of solid electrolyte sensors has been the measurement of dissolved oxygen in the steel making industry. These sensors operate at temperatures in excess of 1500°C, and lifetime is limited to a few tens of seconds, but this is enough to obtain a rapid reliable snapshot measurement of oxygen in the melt. EMC Limited is currently developing an oxygen probe for steel designed for continuous immersion, offering improved process control capabilities and cost savings to the steel making industry.
